MOROCCO – CLIMATE

Before you look at buying a Morocco property you should learn as much as you can about the country.

You might presume that the weather in Morocco is hot hot hot.  Well in some areas it is but don’t just assume it is like that everywhere.  There are many different areas of Morocco all with different microclimates so it is worth knowing about each one before you commit to a property purchase.

The four main areas of Morocco are Rif mountains in the North, the coast on the West, Atlas Mountains in the interior and Sahara Desert to the South East.

The North coast around Tangier and the Rif mountains have a Mediterranean style climate with hot and generally continuous sunshine in the summer with temperatures in the early 20’s.  The winter season sees warm & sunny days interspersed with rainy periods however temperatures rarely drop below freezing at night. 

The Atlas Mountains on the other hand can attract snow in the winter months.  If you are looking for a Morocco property in an area with a consistent climate the North coast may be your best option.

The Atlantic coast and Casablanca sees the most rain, with the heaviest falls in winter.  Top temperatures in the summer are in the mid 20’s but temperatures rarely drop below double figures at night. 

Moving further south and into the Sahara the climate is drier.  The towns in this region are very hot indeed with temperatures into the mid 30’s however the temperatures often plummet at night to below freezing.

While the cities can get very hot in the summer months with temperatures as high as 40°C, mid-level altitudes are pleasant and towns in the mountainous region, like the Kasbah Tamadot, and Oualida are very pleasant.  Again, for a Morocco property to rent to holidaymakers the mountainous towns will attract the most interest due to the more comfortable temperatures.
