Every region of France will have a number of chateau’s, so chose your preferred location and go from there. If you speak to the local estate agents you will get an idea of what is available, however, speaking to locals as well will unearth some real gems as many will not be sold via traditional routes.
When researching for luxury French property chateau’s you will probably only find the ones with famous former residents, if it used to be home to Napoleon, chances are it will be wildly over priced and have a number of preservation orders on it. So, by asking locals, you will find out about buildings not overly talked about online.
One example of a chateau being sold for a high price due to its famous history is Château d’Arricau-Bordes. This 18th century chateau, home of the Comte Jean-Paul Montesquiou d’Artagnan, was the inspiration for the novel The Three Musketeers. The chateau is currently on the market for 3.65 million Euros.
If you are feeling flush consider a fully restored chateau that you can move straight into, however if money is tighter you could look at a project. Look for a chateau with plenty of land and outbuildings, these could one day be converted into accommodation for holidaymakers.
Another way of making money out of your luxury French property chateau is by offering it as a wedding location. Imagine a beautiful 14th century chateau on your wedding photos. You could offer a full service of accommodation, catering, flowers and photography, or you could partner with a wedding planner so you just offer the location.
