France’s much loved King Henri IV said “Good food and wine, this is paradise on earth”. Some of the local specialities in Dordogne include Foie Gras, truffles, prunes and walnuts.
Markets are a great place to pick up some fantastic French delicacies. There are a number of markets across the region including Miramont, St Alvere, Bergerac and Sarlat. The local tourist information will be able to inform you of any local markets.
Another excellent way to experience the local produce is in one of the regions many restaurants. Restaurants in Dordogne are usually very high standard and reasonably priced. By getting to know the locals in the region of your Dordogne property you will be able to discover all sorts of little gems but in Eymet you must try La Bastide and Ma Maison.
If wine is more your thing the Dordogne region has a vast number of vineyards spread across both sides of the river. The Bergerac vineyard is the biggest covering 13,000 hectares across 93 villages and accounting for 75% of Dordogne’s production. The Sigoules wine festival for the real wine fanatics spans a long weekend at the end of July and could be a great draw for guests if you are looking at a Dordogne property to rent to holiday makers.
