The largest of the Balearic Islands, Majorca has become an exclusive holiday destination and one of the most coveted locations for real estate investment.
Majorca is located off the east coast of Spain in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Its chic and vibrant capital city, Palma, is located in the south. Dating back to Roman times, Palma fuses ancient and modern, offering stylish bars, excellent shopping and fascinating attractions. A visit to the stunning Spanish royal palace, La Almudaina, for example, is unforgettable. To this day it is the official office of King Juan Carlos I and still used for state functions and ceremonies.
While it is a small island, stretching just 70km from east to west, Majorca’s varied landscape and coastline offers much variety for year-round pleasure. Sun-drenched for 300 days of the year, and buzzing with visitors during the high season, there is plenty to do in the milder months during spring and autumn.
The Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO-protected mountain range on the west of the island, is a dream to hike through or explore by bike. Home to exquisitely beautiful fishing villages like Deià, it is no wonder that the likes of Richard Branson, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones and the Geldofs are rumoured to be regulars.
In the south west, the resorts of Santa Ponsa and Paguera offer beach-side holiday fun, and Port d’Andratx is a haven for boating and water sports, just a few minutes from the beach at Camp de Mar. On the east coast you can explore Porto Cristo’s incredible limestone “dragon” caves, but go north to stroll around Cala Rajada’s port or relax on Alcudia’s famous golden sands. In the south east you can take in Felantix for a true flavour of authentic Majorca.
With a choice of so many classy destinations, it is easy to see why Majorca is so popular with those looking to buy luxury property in Spain.
